Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar faction) leader Anil Deshmukh on Wednesday reacted to reports of Colonel Shrikant Purohit being promoted to the rank of Brigadier following his acquittal in the Malegaon blast case.
Speaking in Nagpur, Deshmukh referred to the long legal and investigative process that preceded the acquittal. “Colonel Purohit and Sadhvi were investigated in detail by the NIA and remained under scrutiny for several years. After that, both were acquitted,” he said, acknowledging the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
The Malegaon blast case had been under investigation for years, with multiple agencies examining the allegations and evidence related to the incident. The acquittal of the accused, including Purohit and others, marked a significant development in the case after prolonged legal scrutiny.
Deshmukh further noted recent reports regarding Purohit’s professional advancement. “Now, information has come that Purohit has been given a promotion,” he added, referring to his elevation within the Indian Army.
The development has drawn attention due to the sensitive nature of the case and the length of the judicial process involved. While the court’s acquittal cleared the accused of charges, the promotion has become a point of discussion in political and public circles.
Officials have not issued detailed public comments beyond confirming the promotion, and the matter continues to be viewed in the context of both legal closure and institutional decisions within the armed forces.
Political observers note that such cases often remain part of public discourse even after judicial outcomes, particularly when they involve national security, high-profile investigations, and subsequent administrative decisions.
Deshmukh’s remarks reflect ongoing reactions to the development, as discussions continue around the implications of the acquittal and the subsequent promotion within the armed forces.
