NAGPUR , INDIA — Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings to people across India on the occasion of major regional New Year festivals, including Puthandu, Baisakhi, and Pana Sankranti, highlighting the country’s rich cultural diversity and spirit of renewal.

In his संदेश on April 14, 2026, Modi emphasized that these festivals mark the beginning of a new year in different parts of India and symbolize prosperity, hope, and agricultural abundance, especially as they coincide with the harvest season. His remarks reflected the deep cultural roots and shared traditions that unite the nation despite its diversity.

The Prime Minister conveyed his wishes in multiple languages such as English, Tamil, Punjabi, Odia, and Hindi, showcasing an inclusive approach aimed at connecting with citizens from varied linguistic and regional backgrounds. This multilingual outreach underscored the importance of respecting and celebrating India’s cultural plurality while fostering a sense of national unity.

As part of the day’s engagements, Modi also met Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, marking the festive occasion with traditional greetings and interactions. The meeting added a ceremonial dimension to the celebrations taking place across the country.

Joining in the festive spirit, several prominent personalities also extended their greetings. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar were among those who shared messages of goodwill, reflecting widespread participation across political and public life.

Across states, the festivals were celebrated with enthusiasm through traditional rituals, cultural programs, and community gatherings that brought people together in a spirit of joy and gratitude. From vibrant Baisakhi celebrations in Punjab to the observance of Pana Sankranti in Odisha and Puthandu festivities in Tamil Nadu, each festival showcased unique customs while reinforcing shared values.

Some observers pointed out that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin had not issued a public greeting by midday, though the broader focus remained on nationwide celebrations and unity.

The occasion once again highlighted India’s unique ability to celebrate diversity through shared cultural moments, with the Prime Minister’s greetings reinforcing a message of harmony, inclusivity, and collective renewal as different regions welcome the new year.
