Nagpur: The Maharashtra government has approved a ₹300-crore High-Energy Medical Cyclotron Project in Nagpur, marking a significant step toward strengthening the state’s healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The upcoming facility will manufacture medical radioisotopes, which are essential for Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans, nuclear medicine procedures, and radiopharmaceutical applications. The project is expected to improve the timely availability of these critical materials while supporting medical research and innovation.

Medical radioisotopes play a vital role in diagnosing and treating various diseases, particularly cancer. However, their short shelf life often makes transportation from distant production centres challenging.
