DELHI — Congress leader B. K. Hariprasad has criticised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath over his recent remarks, accusing him and others of attempting to distort India’s historical narrative.
Speaking in Delhi, Hariprasad alleged that certain individuals associated with academic institutions and political leadership have tried to present a divided version of the country’s history. He claimed that such efforts are aimed at shaping narratives for political purposes.
He further remarked that figures like Swami Vivekananda are being used symbolically, and suggested that their ideas are being selectively interpreted or misrepresented.
Referring to Subhas Chandra Bose, Hariprasad said that statements attributed to Bose are often linked with Vivekananda, questioning the accuracy and intent behind such associations. He also mentioned that some relatives of Bose have distanced themselves from the BJP and aligned with other political parties.
Hariprasad added that such interpretations reflect a limited or distorted understanding of historical figures and their contributions, criticising what he described as an attempt to reshape public perception.
His remarks come amid ongoing political exchanges between the Congress and BJP over issues related to history, ideology, and national identity.
Political observers note that historical narratives and the legacy of prominent leaders often become part of broader political debates, especially during periods of heightened political activity.
B.K. Hariprasad’s statement highlights the Congress party’s criticism of the BJP’s ideological approach, particularly regarding the interpretation and presentation of India’s historical figures and legacy.
