“We Are Here to Change Society, Not Just Win Elections”: Nitin Gadkari on BJP Foundation Day…

Nagpur, Maharashtra, India

On the occasion of the 47th Foundation Day of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari delivered a deeply reflective and ideologically charged address to party workers and leaders in Nagpur, emphasizing the party’s long-term mission beyond electoral politics.

Invoking the teachings of veteran thinker Dattopant Thengadi, Gadkari drew a distinction between short-term political ambition and nation-building. “Our late Dattopant Thengadi used to say that every politician thinks about their next election. Some politicians here only see elections,” he remarked, subtly criticizing those who prioritize power over purpose.

Positioning the BJP’s philosophy as fundamentally different, Gadkari asserted that the party’s core objective is societal transformation. “We’ve come to change society. We’ve come to change the country,” he said, reinforcing the ideological foundation that has guided the party’s growth over decades.

He further stressed that genuine public support is earned through honest work rather than political maneuvering. “If you work honestly, there’s no need to ask for a chance. The public will come with you, the public will support you,” he stated, highlighting the importance of credibility and grassroots connection.

Reflecting on the party’s journey, Gadkari noted that the BJP’s efforts over the past 40 years have been substantial, contributing to its rise as a dominant political force in India. However, he cautioned that the journey is far from complete. “Our work over 40 years has been considerable. But more work remains,” he added, urging continued dedication among party workers.

A key highlight of his speech was the emphasis on the principle of Antyodaya, a philosophy centered on uplifting the last person in society. Gadkari reiterated that the party’s future direction must remain focused on the welfare of the गरीब and marginalized sections. “We must work for the welfare of the poor. Our goal is Antyodaya, and we will move forward with this spirit,” he affirmed.

His remarks align with the broader narrative presented by party leadership across the country on Foundation Day, where the focus has been on inclusive development, social responsibility, and long-term nation-building. Leaders have consistently highlighted the BJP’s transformation from a small political entity in 1980 to the world’s largest political organization with a vast grassroots network.

Gadkari’s address stood out for its emphasis on values over victory, reminding party workers that true political success lies not merely in winning elections, but in delivering meaningful change to society. His message reinforced the idea that the BJP’s strength lies in its ideological commitment and its continued focus on serving the people, especially those at the margins.
