On November 3, the National Academy of Direct Taxes–Regional Campus (NADT-RC), Mumbai, has commenced the second batch of ‘Navodaya-2026’. This 30-day induction training program is being conducted for 200 newly appointed Office Superintendents (OS) of the Income Tax Department at the Ministerial Staff Training Units (MSTU) in Mumbai.
The recruitment marks a significant milestone for the Income Tax Department, as the Office Superintendent cadre has been filled through direct recruitment for the first time following the merger of the erstwhile Senior Tax Assistant and Office Superintendent grades under the CBDT Office Superintendent (Group ‘B’ Post) Recruitment Rules, 2024.
Ms. Meeta Singh, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (CCIT-10) in Mumbai, inaugurated the event as the chief guest. On this occasion, she highlighted the role of Office Superintendents in ensuring an efficient, technology-enabled and taxpayer-friendly administration. She urged the trainees to further develop their knowledge and skills regarding laws, departmental procedures and office management.
Following the nationwide ‘Rozgar Mela’ held on September 20, 2026, approximately 6,626 directly recruited Office Superintendents have joined the department across the country during the 2026-27 financial year. The primary responsibility for their training has been entrusted to NADT-RC Mumbai, which is overseeing the training of 1,438 newly recruited personnel from the Mumbai and Pune regions.
Shri Navneet Manohar, Principal Additional Director General and Head of NADT-RC Mumbai, emphasised four key principles for a successful career in the Income Tax Department: integrity, empathy, adoption of technology and continuous skill development. He urged the trainees to uphold these values in their professional responsibilities.
This training initiative, aligned with the government’s Mission Karmayogi framework, is part of the department’s efforts to build a capable, professional, and future-ready administrative workforce.
